In the Mediterranean, sacrificing bulls is a practice dating back to pre-historic times. There are about 70 bullrings in Andalucia.
In the province of Cadiz there are a number of bullrings, matador training schools, and museums.
The major bullrings around Cadiz can be found in:
- Jerez de la Frontera Built in 1894 where the bullfighting program is scheduled to coincide with the Horse Fair in May.
- El Puerto de Santa Maria Built by Tomas Osborne y Bohl de Faber in 1880, has many exhibitions and festivities, especially in the summer.
- Algeciras where major bullfights take place during the spring Royal Fair.
